🚀 Big news from the Afdeling for Patologi at Rigshospitalet!We’re excited to share that the CNS tumor classification routine diagnostics just took a major step forward 💥Following the successful implementation of the GridION platform, the department has now received a P2i - a clear recognition of the clinical value and robustness of our sequencing-based workflow.This upgrade strengthens our ability to deliver even faster and more scalable tumor classification for patients, while maintaining high precision, and reflects the incredible teamwork across pathology, diagnostics, and technology. We’re helping drive progress at Haukeland University Hospital and the University of Bergen (UiB) —the place where I developed as a scientist throughout my PhD and postdoctoral years. Spending great days at Næstved Sygehus supporting Bettina Pedersen and Jette with their colorectal cancer microbiome project using Oxford Nanopore Technologies. It’s inspiring to see how real-time sequencing is being integrated into clinical research to better understand the role of the microbiome in colorectal cancer. Just had the pleasure of attending the DSMG Seminar, and it opened with an incredibly insightful talk by Prof. Martin Jakob Larsen setting the tone for an exciting event. Prof. Larsen presented on the significance of nanopore sequencing in uncovering the genetic basis of rare diseases and imprinting disorders — a technology that’s proving to be transformative in clinical genomics.His talk highlighted remarkable case resolutions, including: A complex chromosomal translocation involving the SMAD4 gene,leading to both juvenile polyposis syndrome and hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia.A unique case of a Silver-Russell-like phenotype, traced back to imprinting defects in the IGF2 gene.It’s exciting to see how Oxford Nanopore Technologies long-read sequencing is opening new doors in diagnosing and understanding disorders that were previously elusive with traditional methods.Looking forward to the rest of the seminar and the discussions ahead!
